A Ministry Rooted in the Eucharist: Installation of a New Acolyte

On this joyous celebration of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, parishioners witnessed a significant moment in its liturgical life with the installation of brother Daniel William Michael as an Acolyte. The celebration highlighted the profound connection between the ministry of the acolyte and the Church’s devotion to the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of Christian life. Corpus Christi provides a special occasion for the faithful to publicly honor and give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist, making it a fitting setting for the institution of this important ministry.

On behalf of the Bishop of Penang, Cardinal Sebastian Francis, the rite of installation was carried out by Rev. Msgr. Henry Rajoo and accompanied by our parish priest Fr. Dom. During the ceremony, brother Daniel was reminded of the sacred responsibilities entrusted to him as an acolyte: assisting priests and deacons in the celebration of the liturgy, serving at the altar, and fostering a deeper reverence for the Eucharist. He was encouraged to grow continually in faith and love, seeking to understand the spiritual significance of his ministry and to model his life after Christ, whose sacrifice is made present in the Eucharist.

The parish community joined in prayer, asking God to bless and strengthen brother Daniel in his service. As he received the vessel containing bread and wine, a symbol of his ministry at the Lord’s table, he was exhorted to live a life worthy of the sacred duties entrusted to him. The installation served as a powerful reminder that those who minister at the altar are called not only to serve in liturgical functions but also to be living witnesses of Christ’s love, especially to the weak, the sick, and all God’s people. May brother Daniel’s ministry bear abundant fruit for the Church and inspire others to deepen their devotion to the Eucharist. (E.V)
