Fire Drill At The Church of Sts. Chastan & Imbert
A Fire Drill was conducted on Saturday, the 15th of August 2026 for the parishioners of The Church of Saints Chastan & Imbert in Chai Leng Park, Butterworth.
The objective was to enable the parishioners of SCIC to respond and to evacuate from the church building immediately in the event of an emergency, for example, an outbreak of fire during the celebration of The Holy Mass.
The fire drill was conducted towards the end of the Sunset Mass, that is, at about 7:45 p.m.
Announcement was made about ten minutes before Mass started so that the congregation will be aware of what to do when the emergency alarm is sounded.
“When the emergency alarm/siren sounds, the following is the procedure for evacuation from the church building :-
- Proceed to the nearest Emergency Exit as indicated by the “KELUAR” sign ;
- Follow instructions from the Hospitality Ministers;
- Give priority to the elderly, children, specially-abled/handicapped;
- Do not run but walk in an orderly manner;
- Do not drive your car out of the church premises;
- Proceed to the Safe Assembly Area/Point which is located on the open grassy space opposite of the flag poles; and
- Ensure that members of your family, friends and visitors are present.”
A safety briefing was given by the Safety Ministry Chairman to all who gathered at The Safety Assembly Area/Point.
The time taken for the fire drill was about ten minutes.
In conclusion, it was apparent that the parishioners were excited as it was the first time that a fire drill was conducted for SCIC. (PL)
