Moments of Joy from the 2025 English Catechetical Concert

The English Catechetical Concert on Sunday, 9 November 2025, was the kind of morning that lifted the whole parish. From the moment people stepped into the Nativity Centre Hall, you could feel the excitement. Families arrived with trays of food, children buzzed with energy, and parishioners from all walks of life joined in, turning the hall into a lively mix of chatter, colour, and warm smiles. The decorations, lovingly put up by parents and teachers the day before, made the place feel festive even before the first performance began.

Things started with a generous potluck breakfast that stretched from one table to the next. There was plenty for everyone, and the best part wasn’t even the food, but the way people gathered around it. Parishioners, parents, children, and teachers mingled easily, swapping stories, tasting dishes, and laughing like they’d known each other for ages.

Once the concert began, the whole atmosphere shifted from homely to electric. Students from Primary 1 to Secondary 4 took turns on stage, each group adding its own spark to the morning. There were cheerful dances, catchy action songs, and skits that pulled the whole hall into the story.

The moment that had everyone reaching for their phones was the Primary 3 “Parade of Saints.” The children walked in proudly, dressed in bright, creative costumes that lit up the room. Their joy was so natural that it caught everyone off guard in the best way. It reminded many of us how children often reveal the heart of faith without even trying. They trust easily, smile quickly, and carry a sense of wonder we adults tend to forget. In their own simple way, they taught us more about following Jesus than any long lecture could.

The Form 4 skit on the Parable of the Sower brought a thoughtful pause to the morning. The students handled the story with care, prompting everyone to reflect quietly on the kind of “soil” they might be carrying in their own lives.

To end the celebration, the teachers came together and sang “Give Thanks.” It was gentle and sincere, and it wrapped the whole event in a sense of gratitude. For a moment, the hall felt unusually still, as if everyone was holding the same thought: we are blessed to be part of this community.

What made the concert special wasn’t just the talent on stage. It was seeing the parish come together. Students offering their gifts, parents and teachers working as a team, and parishioners cheering the children on like they were their own.

By the end of the day, one thing felt clear: this wasn’t just an event. It was a glimpse of who we are when we gather as one family. And many walked away hoping we’ll make this a yearly tradition. (Organising team)
