3rd Week of Advent: Make Room for Jesus in Your Heart

On the 3rd week of Advent, we light the candle representing Joy. Just as John the Baptist represented joy in the Gospel (Jn 1: 6-8;19-28), the parishioners of NBVMSCIC gathered together on several occasions to bring joy of the birth of Christ to each other. The week started with Christmas joy and followed up with Senior Citizens Christmas dinner.

“There is no place in the inn” said the inn keeper. Will you make room for Jesus in your heart this Christmas?

The theme for the Senior Citizens Christmas dinner this year was “ make room for Jesus in your heart” . Stephen Francis, the coordinator had designed the theme inviting all attendees to look deep into themselves and make room for Jesus. He shared that his life has changed for the better as he opened his heart to Jesus- there is hope, peace, joy and love.

Christmas is a time for hope, peace, joy and love. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people (Lk 2: 6-14).

Acolyte William shared that Christmas is a time for JOY –

J- Jesus ; let Jesus in

O- think of others

Y- then think of yourself

When you have Jesus and others and self, there will be joy.

Francis shared that Christ came as a child for us so that we may have a way to heaven while Ruth shared that all her life,Christmas has been about others but this year as she is alone; she finds a new meaning in celebrating Christmas for herself.

The seniors had a wonderful night singing carols, chatting with friends and strengthening their bonds over a sumptuous dinner and going back home with goodie bags, lucky draws and ‘ang pows’.

The seniors imbued with the spirit of Christmas shared the joy of being with one another in a special bond that they have formed. They were also joined by some youths who came to join them during this festive season.
