From Burden to Blessing: A Lenten Journey for Teens

On 8 March, the Form 1 to Form 4 catechism students participated in a hands-on group Lenten activity. The activity was designed to draw their attention to the true meaning of Lent and to encourage them to take time to contemplate on their own lives and their journey with God together with their fellow peers.

The session began with the students admitting a burden they carry within themselves. This could be something such as anger, laziness, phone addiction, or other personal struggles. They were encouraged to reflect on how these burdens can draw them away from God.

Each group was then given Bible verses to reflect on and discuss. The students shared about their burdens, why letting go can be difficult, and how they can rely on God’s strength to overcome these struggles.

Following the reflection, the students walked prayerfully to several stations. At the first station, they symbolically released their burdens by throwing away the burdens they had written on a piece of paper. At the Station of Forgiveness, they were invited to forgive someone whom they found difficult to forgive. Finally, at the Station of Change, they wrote down one commitment they would make during Lent to change their ways. At the end of the activity, the students were given key chains with Bible verses to guide and inspire them throughout their Lenten journey. (SR)
