Perjalanan Salib (Journey of the Cross)

Perjalanan Salib (“Journey of the Cross”) is a sacred pilgrimage initiated by the Catholic Church in Malaysia to deepen faith, strengthen unity, inspire repentance, and renew commitment to Christ’s sacrifice. Symbolized by the SALIB, a crucifix made up of nine individual crosses representing the nine dioceses (3 dioceses in West Malaysia and 6 in East Malaysia), the journey emphasizes prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and synodality. It began with the solemn blessing of the SALIB during Malaysian Catholic Youth Day in April 2025, continues across dioceses from May 2025, and will conclude in August 2026 before the crosses are reunited at the Malaysia Pastoral Convention (MPC2026) in September 2026.

The SALIB reflects unity in diversity, featuring the Bunga Raya motif and the Corpus as signs of love, sacrifice, and Christ’s victory. Throughout the journey, the faithful are called to actively participate through prayer, community gatherings, and outreach, while embracing inclusivity and ecological responsibility. By walking together, sharing experiences, and supporting one another, the community prepares spiritually and collectively for MPC2026, fostering renewal, deeper communion, and mission in the Church.

On 11th April, the Salib was handed over to our parish by Sacred Heart Parish in Kulim. The handover ceremony took place at the Kulim church after the sunset Mass. NBVM/SCIC was represented by Brother Melvin, Christopher, and Alex in receiving the cross. The cross was then brought and placed at NBVM Church. (SR)
