The God Who Searches for You

How often do we find ourselves thinking, Is this it? We wake up, rush to work, come home tired, and start all over again. Week after week, year after year. Life becomes a cycle of responsibilities, bills, and deadlines. Even in ministry and family life, we sometimes feel like we are just moving from one task to the next. And somewhere deep inside, a quiet question whispers: There has to be more to life than this.

Every human heart has carried this longing. From ancient tribes carving stones into altars, to majestic temples filled with incense, to our own whispered prayers in the dark, humanity has never stopped reaching out. Why? Because deep down we know we are not enough for ourselves. We were made for more. We are made for God.

The stars do not need to shine, yet they do. The sea does not need to stir our hearts, yet it does. A child’s laughter does not need to pierce our souls, yet it does. Creation does not just exist, it speaks. It is as if the world is filled with hidden voices, all singing the same song: We are beautiful, and we were made. This beauty is not an accident. It is a clue. It is God’s quiet way of reminding us: I am here. I am near. And I made this for you.

Too often we imagine God as far away, an old man in the clouds, detached from our struggles. But the true God is closer than our own breath. He is not one being among others. He is the source of all being. He is the reason there is something instead of nothing, order instead of chaos, beauty instead of emptiness. And this God has not remained hidden. He has stepped into our story. He became flesh in Jesus Christ, walked our roads, touched our wounds, and even entered death so that nothing, could keep us from Him.

We speak often of searching for God, but have you considered that God is searching for you? From the beginning of creation, from the first cry of humanity’s heart, He has been the One knocking at the door, waiting for us to notice. As Jesus says: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20).

This changes everything. Faith is not just us chasing after a distant mystery. It is us being found by a God who has already drawn near. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us: “The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God” (CCC 27). That truth touches every part of our lives. In ministry, when we serve others, it is not simply our effort but God’s search for them flowing through us. In family life, when we love our children, forgive our spouse, or care for an aging parent, we touch the mystery of God’s own love. Even in ordinary routines, meals cooked, hands folded in prayer, burdens shared, God quietly whispers: I am with you.

So here is the invitation. Do not be afraid to ask the big questions. Do not silence the longing in your heart. Do not numb yourself with distractions. Dare to pray: Lord, if You are real, show me. Dare to open your Bible again. Dare to sit in the quiet of the church and let His presence wash over you. Because the God you are searching for, the God behind the stars, the God whispered by beauty, the God you have always hoped might exist, He is searching for you. And when you allow yourself to be found, life will never again be the same. (BV)

Prayer:
Lord, I hear Your knock at the door of my heart. Find me in the busyness of my ministry and work, in the mess of my family life, in the silence of my prayer. Give me the courage to open, the faith to believe, and the love to follow You. Help me discover You in the faces of those I serve and those I love. Amen.
