What Are You Looking For?
We spend our days chasing many things. Work, family duties, recognition, comfort. We run fast, fill our schedules, and silence the ache that rises when we stop long enough to wonder: Is this all there is?
The truth is, the universe around us does not let us hide for long. Look up at the night sky and you will feel it. Stand at the ocean’s edge, and it will confront you. You are small. A breath. A passing shadow. You will not be here forever.
And yet, God whispers: You matter more than all of this.
We mistake size for importance. We think the vastness of galaxies must make us irrelevant. But no star, no mountain, no ocean was made in the image of God. Only you were. No galaxy can love. No ocean can forgive. No mountain can offer itself in sacrifice. Only you can. And that changes everything.
But how often do we live as though we are nothing more than dust? We numb ourselves with endless distractions. We bow down to money, to pleasure, to the false gods of success and reputation. Sometimes we even chase after positions in ministry, hoping a title will make us feel whole. We move from one job to another, looking for more money, more success, more status. And yet in a room full of people, even in church, we can feel alone and insignificant. We keep asking: When will it end?
It begins to end the moment we surrender. It ends when we stop measuring our worth by roles, promotions, or applause, and let ourselves be defined by the one truth that never shifts: you are God’s beloved child.
This is the tragedy. Not that we are small, but that we choose to live as if we are. Not that we are weak, but that we waste our strength on what cannot save. We were created for eternity, yet we settle for crumbs that cannot satisfy.
Deep in your heart, you know this. You have felt it. That emptiness after chasing what you thought would finally make you happy. That restless hunger that no amount of money, no achievement, no relationship has ever filled. It is the signpost of your soul. It points to God, and only God.
He alone gives you meaning. He alone loves you with a love that will not end. He alone calls you to wake up and see who you really are, His child, His creation, His beloved.
So where do you stand today? Are you living as if you are just a body that will one day fade away? Or are you living as one whose soul will outlast galaxies? The choice is before you. To drift further into the noise of this world or to turn back to the One who made you.
God is not distant. He is not silent. He is calling you by name. He set the entire stage of creation so that you would encounter Him. And He asks you now: What are you looking for?
The answer cannot be found in more things, more success, more distractions. The answer is Him. And until you give Him your heart, you will never be at rest.
So let today be the day you stop running. Let today be the day you turn back. He waits for you, not with judgment, but with mercy. Not with condemnation, but with arms open wide. You are not small in His eyes. You are His masterpiece. (BV)
Prayer
Lord, I have searched for meaning in many places, but nothing has filled my heart. Today I turn to You. Take my restlessness and give me Your peace. Take my weakness and give me Your strength. Take my wandering heart and draw it back to You. I am Yours. Amen.
