Findings and Feedback on Church Engagement Survey by 2025 Confirmation Class

As part of their group and outdoor activity, the Confirmation Class of 2025 undertook an assignment to conduct a Church Engagement Survey under the guidance of Brother Daniel and their teachers. The survey consisted of 10 multiple-choice questions and was carried out after the 9 AM Mass on two consecutive weekends: 11 and 18 May 2025.

The Church Engagement Survey was designed with the following goals: to explore how we can better support each member’s faith journey; to help us understand how our church family is growing spiritually and to gather insights that will guide the shaping of ministries, programs, and resources aimed at fostering deeper spiritual engagement and strengthening our community bond.

Survey Overview

A total of 137 respondents participated in the Church Engagement Survey, with ages ranging from 15 years to over 65. The gender composition of the respondents was almost evenly balanced.

The survey explored key areas related to personal spiritual growth and community engagement, structured into the following themes:

1. Growth in Faith

On the area of growth in faith, the survey consisted of 4 questions: description of their personal growth in faith; challenges and obstacles in experiencing growth in faith; prayer life and reading and reflection on scriptures and spiritual materials.

Overall, the respondents reported experiencing either significant or some growth in their faith. Among them, those aged 65 and above were the most likely to report significant spiritual growth. They tend to pray frequently and make time for personal reflection.

At the other end of the spectrum, youths aged 16 to 34 indicated facing more challenges growing in their faith and often felt disconnected from God. The results show that they pray only occasionally outside of church, and expressed doubts about their faith.

Respondents aged 44 and above cited lack of time due to busy schedules as a major obstacle to prayer and spiritual growth.

On the other hand, many factors have contributed to the growth in faith, particularly Sunday worship, personal prayer and meditation, as well as acts of service to others. At least 50 percent of the respondents either read the scriptures daily or weekly and meditate on it.

2. Sense of Community

On the area of community, the survey focused on the following areas: sense of belonging to the church community and support and encouragement in the faith journey.

In general, respondents expressed a sense of belonging to the church community. However, some youths aged 16 to 34 reported feeling uncertain—they neither felt a strong sense of belonging nor exclusion. While most respondents felt supported and encouraged in their faith journey, those aged 18 to 44 were indicated that they only sometimes or rarely felt supported by other church members.

3. Active Participation

The following sections focused on : involvement in church ministries, volunteer work and service; awareness and response to God’s call in their lives.

About 69 percent of respondents reported being actively involved in the church, while 24 percent—though not currently involved, expressed a desire to participate. Only 7 percent indicated no interest in church involvement.

Nearly 80 percent felt they were actively living out their mission or God’s call, whereas the remaining 20 percent were unsure of their mission or calling.

4.Suggestion for improvement

The following section required respondents to provide suggestions on how the church can support their spiritual growth more.

In general, respondents across all age groups suggested the need for better communication, improved outreach programs, and more relevant or practical sermons. Many youths specifically highlighted the need for mentorship and discipleship. Prayer support and opportunities for fellowship were also among the most commonly suggested by all age groups to support spiritual growth. SR

Feedback from the Confirmation Class on their Survey Experience:

Danila Abigail: During the survey, people were so kind and I felt blessed getting to know the people’s experience in this parish.

Taffael, Raymand and Jesse: It was great experience interviewing people- we met many joyful people who had difference and personal experience in faith. Mostly, the people were kind and took time to fill out form.

Francisca and Elisa: The survey was challenging as we had to meet and talk to people we did not know. It was a training on building confidence. Some people had difficulty understanding the survey in English and it was a great opportunity for to help translate for them. It helped us learn many wonderful things about faith and spiritual growth.

Nico and Levi : we had a good time meeting many people from other BECs and also the elderly who were very kind. It helped us reflect more about our own faith.

Brian and Jayden: It helped grow in our relationship with other people. Listening to other people’s struggles helped us deepen our own faith.

Michelle and Nancy: One of the best parts was getting to talk to different church members. We approached people of different ages, some we knew, and some we had never met before. Through that, we learned to be more open and confident when speaking to others. Some people opened up and shared their personal thoughts with us, which we really appreciated. Listening to them taught us new things and gave us a better understanding of how important faith is. We also received blessings from them too. We’re truly grateful for everything we learned through this survey and for every person who was willing to share their personal thoughts with us. It is also something we’ll carry with us as part of our own faith journey too.

Viveena and Runisha: It turned out to be a really special experience for both of us.We ended up meeting a lot of new people and had some really meaningful conversations. Through that, we got to know more about their lives, their stories, and how they’ve been walking with God. Many people shared honestly, and we felt really blessed by their openness and kindness. Some even offered prayers and encouragement, which truly touched us.It was about listening to people’s stories, learning from them, and growing together in faith. We’re really grateful to everyone who took the time to talk to us.
