A Night to Remember: NBVM & SCIC Youth Day 2024
When was the last time you experienced fellowship under the stars with friends, singing heartfelt tunes around a warm bonfire or grilling your favourite treats over glowing charcoal? That was exactly what the youths of NBVM and SCIC enjoyed on 23rd November, as they gathered for the much-anticipated 2024 Youth Day.
This special celebration, held in conjunction with the Feast of Christ the King, also commemorated the 39th World Youth Day Celebration—a global call to empower young people in faith and community.
Over 50 young people from diverse language groups came together for this landmark event—a vibrant initiative rekindling the spirit of community after a long hiatus. The evening was brimming with activities designed to strengthen bonds and celebrate faith, bringing the parish youth closer together as one united family in Christ.
The event began with a warm welcoming speech by Father Dominic, who set an uplifting tone for the night by encouraging the youth to embrace the joy and purpose of gathering as a community in Christ. This was followed by lively ice-breaking sessions, where participants openly shared their fears, fostering vulnerability and trust.
The energy heightened during a powerful Praise and Worship session led by youth representatives from all language groups, filling the air with heartfelt music and devotion. Seminarian Boniface delivered an inspiring talk on living a purposeful Christian life, sparking reflection and hope among the attendees.
One of the spiritual highlights of the event was a midnight Mass celebrated by Father Dominic, which included a deeply moving adoration session. This sacred moment offered the youth a transformative and anointing experience, allowing them to encounter God’s love in a profound way.
Despite a light drizzle earlier in the evening, God’s blessings shone upon the group as the weather cleared just in time for the much-awaited campfire session. The youth enjoyed the warmth of the fire, a delightful barbecue, and spirited sing-alongs and games, making it a night to remember.
The event left a deep impact on the participants. Many shared their gratitude for the chance to bond with one another and make new friends in the love of Christ. Some expressed joy at experiencing the beauty of a campfire for the very first time, while others appreciated the opportunity to feel this sense of community at such a young age—a gift they will carry forward with joyful hearts.
In the span of 12 hours, the youth of NBVM and SCIC experienced a spirit-filled celebration that beautifully honoured the Feast of Christ the King, commemorated World Youth Day, and ushered in the Advent season with joy and unity.
With high hopes for more events like this in the future, the youth pray for continued love, peace, and understanding within the community. As we prepare for Christmas, the youth of NBVM and SCIC wish everyone a blessed and joyful Advent ahead!
