Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – A Call to Serve and Love
On the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our parish came together to celebrate not only the birth of the Mother of God but also the call to deepen our love and commitment to the church. Deacon Lazarus reminded us that faith is not just a one-time decision but a lifelong commitment.
While the journey of faith may begin with a simple choice to follow Christ, it must grow into a steady commitment to love and serve the church. Making the decision is the easy part; the challenge lies in remaining faithful, especially through hardship.
Loving the church means embracing it, even with its imperfections. Yes, the church, made up of flawed individuals, may disappoint us at times. But despite its failings, it remains God’s chosen instrument for building His kingdom. It’s easy to stand on the sidelines and criticise, but true love for the church calls us to get involved, to serve and to reach out to the lost, the least, the last and the lowest.
This spirit of commitment and care is echoed in our parish’s recent initiatives. To expand our outreach and ministries, seven new ministries have been formed, each with a dedicated leader to guide it. Fr Dominic presented the appointment letters during Mass to the following ministry heads:
- Street Mission Ministry: Teresa Chan
- Bahasa Ministry: Patricia Mikat
- Welcoming Ministry: Lily Beth
- Green Ministry: Kathlin Ambrose
- Mission Ministry: Valentine Dass
- Safety Ministry: Paul Loh
- Children’s Ministry: Lawrence Boudville
We are called to go beyond mere words and enter the deeper reality of love expressed through action. God doesn’t just ask us to profess our faith, He calls us to live it. The true measure of our commitment lies in what we do. Just as Christ revealed His love through sacrifice, our actions must demonstrate the depth of our dedication.
As we reflect on this, let us remember that “My Church, My Home” is more than just a tagline, it is a way of life. May our love for God, His people and His mission be evident in every act of service and faithfulness.
We were also honoured to have Fr Patrick Massang and Fr Anthony Pillai join us for this special Mass. Fr Patrick blessed us with a heartfelt rendition of his song, Icon of Love, dedicated to our Blessed Mother, which beautifully captured the essence of the day’s celebration. The day was made even more memorable with a vibrant procession around the church, as we came together in faith and devotion to honour Mary.
