NBVM Novena Day 9: Peace Through Mission

On the ninth day of the Novena, Fr. Bernard reflected on the theme “Peace Through Mission.” He drew from the encounter between Mary and Elizabeth (Luke 1:39–47), two women who had experienced God deeply and responded with hospitality. They shared in the blessing of salvation.
After journeying together for nine days, Fr. Bernard invited us to ask: What has our encounter with God done in us, and what is God asking of us?
He suggested two signs of a genuine encounter with God:
1. Growing in thanksgiving.
Mary’s Magnificat is a celebration of God’s blessings. Her gratitude gave her the strength to remain faithful even at the foot of the Cross. A community built on an encounter with God becomes confident in what God can do when we surrender to Him. We are called to give thanks for the gift of creation and to celebrate life.
The opposite of thanksgiving is constant complaining, judging others, and a sense of entitlement-the expectation of being treated with special attention. Sadly, this can even happen within our own Church communities.
2. Growing in service.
An encounter with God renews our “yes” to building His Kingdom of justice, peace and love. Even in our weakness, God works through His mercy, love and compassion. He is “slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
God calls us to build a kingdom where no one is excluded because of race, gender, age, wealth or any other factors that divides us. We are all vulnerable to the temptation of greed, but a disciple does not stop being a disciple when the mission becomes inconvenient. We are on mission 24/7-in our homes, families, workplaces and communities-serving the common good, motivated by the love of God and love for other. (SR)
After Mass, the community gathered for the procession and the burning of petitions, symbolising our surrender of our prayers, hopes and concerns to God.
