A Parish Family Day to Remember

On the twenty-eighth of June, with grateful hearts we came,
To gather at SCIC, one parish in His name.
Together we began where every blessing starts,
At Holy Mass, with so much joy and grateful hearts.

In four languages our hymns and prayers rose high,
And smiles that lit up every eye.
With Fr Dom, Fr David and Fr Bernard by our side,
We worshipped as one family, united far and wide.

Then gathered by the altar, every face aglow,
We paused for one grand family photo.
A treasured memory, joyful and bright,
To remind us of God’s love and guiding light.

Soon off to the hall, where laughter filled the air,
Breakfast, coffee, fellowship—good cheer everywhere.
Joshua, Jason and Evanna led the way with song,
And before too long, the whole crowd sang along.

Outside, the games brought giggles, shouts and cheers,
Creating memories to treasure for years.
Some pinned the donkey’s tail with hopeful aim,
While others puffed at paper cups in a breathless game.

With chopsticks they sorted bright candies by hue,
While others moved on bricks, one careful step or two.
Still others became choo-choo trains in merry delight,
Keeping balloons in place with all their might.

Inside the hall, the joy was just as bright.
Our Borneo and Indian dancers brought colour and delight,
While lively line dancers stepped in perfect time,
Filling the room with rhythm and rhyme.

Out the back, fresh durians were split with care,
Their creamy golden treasure was gladly shared.
And for an extra treat that brought wide delight,
Ice cream awaited—what a wonderful sight!
Chocolate, vanilla or strawberry too,
There was a flavour waiting just for you.

Along the sidelines, young and old took part,
With games that brought together every heart.
Snakes and ladders, Donkey cards and broken telephone,
Proving the greatest joy is never found alone.

Before we knew it, lunchtime had arrived,
With rice, curry and vegetables to revive.
Yet the fun continued—there was still much to see,
For the afternoon held more festivities.

Football fans swapped the field for Kahoot’s quick pace,
Testing their knowledge in a different race.
Then riddles challenged minds both young and wise,
To see who knew our parish’s greatest treasures and ties.

With prizes awarded and spirits held high,
The joyful hours seemed all too quick to fly.
Helping hands then tidied every chair and floor,
Leaving the hall ready to welcome once more.

As everything returned to its rightful place,
We headed home with thankful hearts and smiling face.
What a beautiful day of friendship and fun,
A celebration of many becoming one.

Above all, we thank our loving God above,
For blessing our parish with faith, hope and love.
May the joy we shared continue all year through—
For our parish is a family, and every one of us belongs too. (KA)
