20 Years in the Vineyard of the Lord: Celebrating the Priestly Ministry of Fr. Dominic, Fr Francis Andrew and Fr. Michael Teng
On 24th January, Saturday the congregation of NBVM/SCIC and many others from other congregation gathered to celebrate 20 years of the service in the vineyard of the Lord- a beautiful and memorable celebration of the 20th sacerdotal anniversary of Fr Dominic Santhiyagu, Fr. Francis Andrew and Fr. Michael Teng, OFM Cap. Each of the priest took turns to thank God and the people for this vocation. Fr. Dominic said that it has been challenging but rewarding at the same time.
During the homily, Fr. Francis Andrew prodded the congregation with the following questions? How do you respond to God’s call? Do we respond immediately with trust and surrender to His will? Or do we take our time and do as what we want to? He explained that all of us are called. He said that priestly vocation is hard but parental vocation is even harder- to place food on the table, to educate the children and nurture them in the right direction. We are called and some of us respond with trust while others choose not respond or delay their response.
He also added that there is very little unity in the church. He has witnessed where church goers are comfortable in being in their own groups and do not reach out to others. Even when free refreshments are offered; the people do not come together but rather in factions. He said unity is necessary to reflect the love and mission of Christ. People of God have to be united in one mind and heart to faithfully carry out the mission of Christ.
After mass, all were invited to have lunch together with all the priests as we commemorate the celebration of their priestly anniversary. There was a video that played during the lunch dedicated to Fr. Dominic and other priests. He thanked all of his staff and parishioners that has been on this journey with him all these years saying “I thank God for the gift of priesthood, family and parishioners”.
Lastly, all the congregations each gathered at the photo booth to take some photos with Fr. Dominic. And with that the celebration ended with warmth and thanksgiving. by SR & Emily Valentine
