Throwback 2025: Confirmands Reminded that Their Mission is in the World
On 7 December, 26 youths were confirmed by Cardinal Sebastian Francis at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The mass was concelebrated by Fr. Dominic Santhiyagu, the parish priest.
During his homily to the youths, the Cardinal asked each of them why they had chosen their particular confirmation name. This became an awakening moment, as he reminded them that they had been personally called by name and sent forth on a mission. He emphasised that they must now take ownership of their decisions and their lives. As confirmed Catholics, they are responsible for the choices they make and are called to walk courageously, not cowardly, becoming a voice in the world.
Cardinal Sebastian, stressed that their mission lies beyond the church walls — in their schools, institutions, and workplaces. It is there that they are called to be witnesses of Christ, shining their light brightly so that others may come to know Jesus.
The Cardinal warned that the evil one would attempt to distract them from their mission. Therefore, they must constantly call upon the Holy Spirit to be their counsellor. He urged them to pray for prudence and wisdom, so that they may walk faithfully in the way of Christ. SR
