Ponggal Celebration 2026 – A Joyful Thanksgiving to God
The Ponggal Celebration 2026 was joyfully organised by the Tamil Apostolate Team in the spirit of the Year of Peace. It was a meaningful gathering that brought together faith, culture, and community in a spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving to God.
The celebration began in the late afternoon with the traditional preparation of Sweet Ponggal. As the Ponggal overflowed, the joyful cry of “Ponggaloo Ponggal!” filled the air, expressing gratitude for God’s abundant blessings. The Ponggal was then blessed by the priest, followed by the celebration of the Holy Mass.
The church was filled with colour and joy as parishioners came dressed in traditional attire. It was heartening to see families and friends united, celebrating both their cultural heritage and their shared faith.
The Holy Mass was meaningfully celebrated by Rev. Fr. David. In his homily, Father reflected on the conversion of St. Paul and reminded us that we are called to live humbly as children of God. He shared that while we are not the light ourselves, we are called to reflect the light of Jesus through our lives. True peace and joy, he reminded us, come from sincere service to God and a deep love for the Sacraments.
After Mass, the celebration continued with cultural performances and fellowship over dinner. Parishioners of all ages shared their talents through music, dance, and traditional arts, marking a joyful opening of the Year of Peace. Elders were also honoured for their service, and a lucky draw added to the joyful atmosphere.
The celebration concluded with a closing prayer, leaving hearts filled with gratitude, joy, and a renewed sense of unity. The Ponggal Celebration 2026 was a beautiful reminder of the richness of our faith, the strength of our community, and the blessings we share as we journey together in the Year of Peace. (AT)
