NBVM Novena Day 8: The Source of Our Joy

On the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Redemptorist Priests Fr. Patrick Massang and Phillip Lai touched on Mary being the real source of Joy and her birth for the purpose of the divine mission as the Mother of our Saviour.

Source of Real Joy

“What is the real source of our joy?” asked Fr. Patrick Massang

He explained that the best news the lowly shepherds received was a child is born to save mankind. This was happened because Mary filled with grace said ‘yes’ to accept the responsibility according to God’s will. Mary came to be born with one mission – to do God’s will. Mary is the chosen one and the closest to Jesus. She is the source of our joy because she is listening to our prayers and interceding for us in heaven. She is a gift to us.

The Birth of a Child is the Birth of the Mother

Fr. Phillip Lai added that a mother is born when a child is born and so Mary became a mother when Jesus was born. That is why the reading taken on the Nativity of Mary is the reading from Mathew 1: 18-25 on the birth of Jesus. A child always runs to the mother when in pain or hurt. It is a beautiful relationship. He reminded the congregation that the mother’s senses are alert even when she is sleeping, always on the look out for her children.
