Journey of Life

The virtual youth gathering on 22 May gave opportunity to all youths of NBVM and SCIC including those residing abroad to catch up again despite the pandemic. Around 11 youths participated in the event and it was an enriching moment for all of the youths as we listened to each other’s sharing and reflections from our Parish Priest Fr. Dom and Fr. Mark.

Fr. Dom shared about the journey of life one goes through – a struggle between reality and falsehood. He shared his experience of the struggle that he went through during the MCO. He followed the advice of a priest to write down his struggles and then burn it and surrender it to God. This gave him clarity of what he was going through and he felt resurrected after that. He felt peace and calmness fill his soul. He then consciously made effort to move on. He explained that life is about the choices we make either to continue growing or to remain in the same hamster wheel where you go through the same struggles and doubts about falsehood and truth. So take time to reflect, pen down, surrender and make effort to move on!

Fr. Mark shared about how many are struggling to cope with the lockdowns and social distancing. He shared how as a priest, he missed preaching to the congregation and life began to feel quite lonely with the new restrictions. However, he reminded us to appreciate the little things in life and be aware that although many around the world are suffering, we should be grateful for the roof we have over our heads and food on our plates.

Choir leader, Brenda shared the joys and struggles of leading the choir and encouraged more youths to share their gifts with the church. She also shared how being in the choir has given her a sense of purpose and a role in church. She invites the youth to involve themselves and participate to find their calling in the church as well. Youth leader, Nicholas shared his experience of being a part of the ACT242 group and how this group has given him a sense of belonging. He encouraged us to form our own groups where we can share and grow together in Christ.

Each participants then shared their experiences and thoughts on how life has been in the past year. It was an insightful sharing and interesting that we are not alone in this difficult moment. We should count our blessings and carry on with life. (Nikeisha Marien)
