The Power of Love

In breaking the word this week, Fr. Martin spoke on how important it is for us to go into the sanctuary of hearts to remove the obstacles that separate us from God and fill our hearts with love. He narrated the following story:

A priest had a dream that he was in his parish and could see the choir singing but could not hear them. He then began to preach but his own voice was not audible. Then in the silence, he heard a voice of a child singing ‘Amazing Grace”. He heard God telling him that that is exactly what He hears when the congregation is at mass. People are so absorbed in themselves that they do most things as ritual and not from the heart. Only the little girl sang from her heart and with love.

And so the takeaway from the story is that God sees our hearts unlike man. If our hearts are not filled with love for God, then everything we do is a mere routine. We get used to doing something that we forget why we are doing it and it lacks love.

If our hearts are not filled with love for God, then everything we do is a mere routine.

Thus we need the sacred space to let God in and allow Him to speak to us, mould us and transform us. Let’s not be absorbed in the pursuit of material wealth and achievements, instead live a life worthy of our calling -to love as Christ did. – SR
