God’s Presence in Our Midst

Two days ago, on Tuesday, while the sun was still blazing hot, we had an unexpected long intruder into our home. It was Mr. long- greenish brown snake that accidentally found its way in through the gap on the sliding door. Fortunately, my daughter had spotted it stealthily making its way through the grill. Trying to be a good sport, my son nudged Mr. long with a racquet hoping it will glide its way out.  The attempt failed as Mr. long slithered so quickly behind the sofa. “O God please help us” was the only prayer that I uttered. Mr. long had coiled itself in a defense position and was rearing its head. We called for our neighbour- an avid gardener and grandad who without hesitation came in armed with a long bamboo stick and metal tong. Skillfully he caught the intruder and took it away. What a relief ! At that moment I felt God making his presence felt.

This is not the only time I have felt His mercy and love – times when I had a flat tyre on the bridge and help was only 5 minutes away or the time when I could not get a cab to my scholarship interview and had a fellow college mate who offered help. I felt His presence in every person that I have encountered in my life who has been there in every peril or circumstance. May be each of us have had an experience and help was just within reach and you know that you have called on the Lord and He is there every moment of the day watching over us.

Psalm 121:8 The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.

Psalm 145: 20 The Lord watches over all who love him

God is in our midst every moment of our lives. He is present in our neighbours, friends whether Malay, Chinese or Indian or whatever race or religion. He is present in every blossom of a rose or lily or periwinkle we come across or the lush green trees. He is in every sunrise, sunset and every living being and things that we see.

“Come what, come may”- dangers, perils and woes, He is there. We are not alone.

Psalm 145:18  The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.
