Festive Migrant Sunday Celebration at SCIC

NBVM and SCIC parish celebrated the 105th World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday, September 29th. Mass on the day was celebrated in the Malay language and animated by migrants from Indonesia.

Parish priest, Fr Dominic Santhiyagu in his homily quoted Pope Francis who has called on the Church to respond to the challenges of contemporary migration with four words: welcome, protect, promote and integrate. The Holy Father added that if we put these four verbs into practice, we will promote the integral human development of all people.

Fr Dominic further emphasized that as a parish, we should reach out to the migrant community that has left their homes in search of greener pastures here. He suggested three actions that we can use to guide our interactions and create meaningful relationships with each other; these are peduli (care), peka (sensitive) and kongsi (share).

After Mass, parishioners were treated to a delicious spread of Indonesian food. The occasion was also marked with plenty of music, dancing and merriment. (KA)
