4 Steps to Resolving Conflicts

In breaking the word, during the Friday Mass on the 5th week of Easter, Fr. Dom spoke on 4 steps to resolve conflict.

Step 1: Identify the Issue (Acts 15:24)

“Since we have heard that some of our number who went out without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind”

Fr. Dom said “first we need to identify the issue or the problem”.

Step 2: Appoint Leaders to Address the Conflict (acts 15: 25-27)

“We have with one accord decided to choose representatives and to send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul” “who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” “So we are sending Judas and Silas who will also convey this same message by word of mouth”

Fr. Dom explained that we should not depend on the Parish Priest to resolve all conflicts. The leaders of the ministries should try to resolve the conflict first.

Step 3: Do Not Burden People with Your Own Rules and Regulations (Acts 15:28)

It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities”

Fr. Dom explained that Christian faith is not about rules and regulations but a relationship. It is journey one makes in his own time and space. So let the people be comfortable and draw closer to God in their own time.

Step 4:  Be Joyful and United in the Love of God (Acts 15:31)

“When the people read it, they were delighted with the exhortation”

At the end of the mass, the congregation celebrated the birthdays and anniversaries of those in the month of May. At the heart of it all, everyone wants to be loved and accepted. If we do not judge and impose people with our way of doing things and our rules but respect each other – there would be less conflicts.
