Lenten Journey Week 5: Jesus Raises Lazarus from the dead

In this week’s Gospel Reading on Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, Fr. Dom explains that in this story Jesus gives a clear indication that He is the resurrection. This story is also a prelude to his own resurrection. Here, Jesus assures us that death is not the end. There is life after death.

Fr. Dom asked the congregation to reflect on their own death. Are we afraid? Death is not end, he reiterated.

Jesus calling Lazarus out of the tomb also symbolizes his call for us to come out of our darkness of sin to the light. Instead of dwelling and decaying in our wretched way of life, he wants to free us and be alive.

Thus the story of raising Lazarus is an assurance of life after death and a call to live in freedom away from the darkness and into the light.
