Day 7: Mary – the Faithful Disciple

Homily

In his homily, Fr. James Pitchay pointed out that God is always faithful but men on the hand, repeatedly, have been unfaithful – Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the Israelites turned to idols but God did not forsake them. He sent to so many prophets and yet the chosen people remained unfaithful. Finally He came down as human to fulfil His covenant “I am your God and you are my people”.

Fr. James prodded the people with the following questions:

Do we listen to God?

Do we follow his commandments:  love one another and forgive each other?

Fr. James explained that Mary was the only one who listened to God and was faithful to God from the beginning to the end -from accepting him in the womb up to his death at Calvary. When the angel told Mary that she would conceive and she accepted without hesitation. She was not concerned of the repercussions. When the disciples left Jesus at the foot of the cross, Mary stayed on faithfully at the cross.

As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us offer ourselves to Jesus and ask Mary to intercede for us so that we too may be faithful as her.
