Epiphany of Jesus through Our Lives
This week as we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany- revelation of Jesus as the new-born king, there are a few things that we can ponder on:
Why do we worship Jesus?
Fr. Dom explained that the three wise man “saw his star” and “came to do him homage” (Mat 2:2) but Herod was perturbed and wanted to do him homage only to safeguard his position. What is our intention for coming to church? The birth of Christ reveals the true intentions of our souls- our reason for coming to church has to be to worship the Lord.
What gifts do we bring him?
The three wise men brought him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that befits a king. Then they returned to their countries by a different way. As we embrace the New Year, “what gifts can we bring him?” asked Fr. Dom. As for him, he prays to grow in patience and commits to doing what is right. We too can bring him gifts – gifts to change our ways to be better disciples of Jesus and revealing him through our lives.
Jesus the king came to this world in all humility as a little baby – vulnerable and touched the hearts of both wise and lowly of hearts. May be, we too can make a commitment to move forward this year by a different way from old habits to new ones – may be with more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It is now time for the manifestation of Jesus through our lives! – SR
