Holy Thursday- The Last supper and the Institution of the Priesthood
On this special day of Triduum, Fr. Dom humbled himself and asked forgiveness for any hurts he may have caused. He said priests are not infallible; they are human too.
In his homily, Fr. Dom recapped the days leading to Holy Thursday. He shared the memories of the Seder meal he had with the Youths. The Seder Meal is the Passover meal that celebrates the exodus of the people of Israel from slavery to freedom. He said Jesus perfected the Passover meal through the institution of the Eucharist and sacrificing himself for our salvation.
He reminded the congregation that Jesus also instituted the Priesthood on this special day. He said that priests are called in the ministry of priesthood but as disciples, all of us have a share in the common priesthood. We are all called in the mission to serve.
In addition, Fr. Dom shared his thoughts on the current predicament of priests in the Penang Diocese. He explained that many are ageing and will be retiring soon. Unfortunately, the ageing priests do not have a proper home to age with dignity. As such, he hopes that St. Joachim’s Centre can be converted as a retirement home for priests. He said as priests, they do not have families to rely on and having given much of their youth to the service of the Lord, he hopes that the priests here can have a proper home to retire. Such a home would not only be an encouragement to the current priests but also for those who are discerning their vocation. He asked the parishioners to pray for priests and the plans for a better retirement home.
