Feast of Corpus Christi- A Call to Love as Jesus Did
The Feast of Corpus Christi is a reminder of Christ’s Love for humanity and so we too are called to love as He did.
“The Eucharist is the sacrament of love: it signifies love, it produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life” St Thomas Aquinas
When we partake in the Eucharist we become one with Christ and become united with those who also partake in this sacrament of love. As St John Vianney said, “He who communicates loses himself in God like a drop of water in the ocean. They can no more be separated,” We thus become the body of Christ in this fallen world. Since the Eucharist signifies love and produces love, we are thus called to love as Jesus did. It is thus a call for transformation.
The bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Christ. We through the Eucharist are called to transform from within to shine His love through our words and actions. The Eucharist “enkindles the flame of love in the heart; hence the Sacrament is the Gift of gifts, and the Grace of graces,” St. Angela Foligno
Pope John Paul II tells us that only through the Eucharist can we love as Christ did.
“Only through the Eucharist is it possible to live the heroic virtues of Christianity: charity, to the point of forgiving one’s enemies; love for those who make us suffer; chastity in every age and situation of life; patience in suffering and when one is shocked by the silence of God in the tragedies of history or of one’s own personal existence. You must always be Eucharistic souls in order to be authentic Christians.”
