Palm Sunday: Lessons on Suffering and Virtues

Fr Ryan explained to the congregation that Palm Sunday reminds us of Jesus’ humanity and divinity. He became human to save us.

The lessons we can learn from the entire celebration:

Suffering is inevitable. The cross is the way for our salvation. We have to pray that we have a share in Christs suffering.

Each man in his suffering can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ.” Pope John Paul II

Virtues: patience, humility and obedience are essential for all disciples of Jesus. Jesus was patient in his suffering. He humbly and obediently carried the cross.

Humility : the willingness to let God be God” and “to acknowledge one’s dependence on God”. St Augustine

Patience: we possess the virtue of patience when we endure evils with equanimity(calmness)- it is when we struggle with serenity despite the difficulties…the patient prefer to endure wrong rather than inflicting wrong on the others; they do not commit the sin of impatience. St Augustine

Obedience: means to hear or listen`

`The Devil doesn’t fear austerity but holy obedience.”St Francis de Sales

Mass was coordinated by the Youths. (SR)
