Spreading Christmas Joy and Community Spirit

Our parish held its annual Christmas Joy event on December 17th, ushering in the holiday season with an evening filled with performances, Christmas cheer, and community spirit. As guests arrived, our master of ceremonies welcomed all present, leading into a lively flashmob featuring our parish youths and later joined by Fr Dom to the delight of everyone.

After an opening prayer led by Fr Dom centering our hearts on the meaning of Christmas, we welcomed the guest of honour, YB Kumaran, state assemblyman for Bagan Dalam, along with his team. They were greeted by the Christmas Joy organising team as ballerinas ushered them into the hall and then went on to dance on stage to the song Last Christmas.

This was followed by a round of speeches, first by Mr Stephen Chin, the parish pastoral council chairman. YB Kumaran then addressed the community, expressing his appreciation for the support shown by the people to the government. He also highlighted the state’s commitment to aid and support initiatives in places of worship and wished everyone a wonderful Christmas season.

The programme continued with gift bags given to the children present. This was followed by dinner, during which various talented parish groups spread Christmas cheer with carol singing in English, Mandarin, Tamil, and Bahasa Malaysia. There were also dance performances by children and youth. The seniors were not to be left out and presented a line dance to the tune of Michael Buble’s Sway. Catechism children also delighted the crowd with a skit on the nativity story. Laughter and joy flowed through the hall as everyone sang and cheered along with the performers.

The events of the evening continued with a Christmas quiz for all children. All participated enthusiastically and the winners took home little gifts as their reward. The event culminated with a dedicated moment for solemn reflection—acknowledging the suffering in the world and keeping in our hearts those less fortunate at Christmas. Our children and youth led everyone in singing “We Are The World” and “Heal the World,” reminding us of the hope Christ’s message brings amidst the darkness in the world.

The evening ended with Fr Dom’s blessing and closing words, capping a wonderful event spreading Christmas joy and community spirit within our parish. We thank all who attended and brought our parish together through talent, faith, and fellowship.
