His Star Our Hope for Christmas
This Christmas, Fr. Dom invited us to ponder and cultivate the following spirituality:
Spirituality Calmness instead of being emotional
He explained that a person’s internal peace is the source of outer calmness. Calmness produces better results, so let not our emotions take control of us.
Saint Paul tells us to“aspire to lead a quiet life“. (1 Thessalonians 4:11). In Ecclesiastes and Proverbs it says calmness can solve many problems “Calmness can lay great errors to rest”. (Ecclesiastes10:4).”The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools ” (Ecclesiastes 9:17).“A soft answer turns away wrath.“ (Proverbs 15:1) and also:
St Francis de Sales reminds us “Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.”
Spirituality of appreciation instead of shopping
Appreciation or gratitude is an important virtue in life and comes from humility, knowing all things we have come from God.Materialism and greed leads to lack of appreciation.
“If souls are humble, they will be moved to give thanks,” St. Teresa of Ávila
The bible tells us that we need to give thanks for everything in life -“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame”
Romans 5:3-5
Spirituality of progressiveness instead of stagnation
We cannot be stagnant in our faith. As a living witness of God, there has to be growth both in our faith and character. We need to grow as a community that is open to the Holy Spirit and does the will of God. We move with the spirit to lead others to Christ. Be the star to others so that they too may encounter Christ.
