2nd week of Advent: Walk the Walk
At 9am in the morning, the carillon sounded harmoniously.
A total of 23 confirmands stood steadfast outside the entrance, boys were lined up in the right row while girls in another. Then came Father Dominic and the altar servers, together they marched.
Mass was multilingual. The first reading was in Tamil, responsorial psalm in English followed by third reading in Mandarin. Hymns were also sung in 4 different languages, signifying multiculturalism in our Church.
The electric organist poised with elegance, the choir with euphonious voices. What’s special about this particular mass was that the second candle of advent was lit, indicating peace.
The 2 sermons shared by Father Dominic that attracted me was
- Walk the Walk
- Prepare a Place for God
In Walk the Walk, he preached about how we should walk the way of God, not the way of the pagans nor the way of the heathens. In His walk, we shall remain slow and steadfast
‘Prepare a place for God’, a picture of a house surrounded by waves indicated. In the midst of a storm, prepare a place for God, focus on Him not the storm. By way of illustration, having to prepare a place for God implies that we make our hearts a dwelling place for God.
Having God in your boat doesn’t mean no storm shall you encounter but no storm shall sink your boat, not even a squall.
Baptism makes you a child of the Father, the Holy Communion unites you with Christ the Son, Confirmation gives you a share in the Holy Spirit. Now that all confirmands are gifted with the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit; wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and last but not least the Fear of the Lord … .let us cultivate the seven gifts.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the power of your love. Send forth your Spirit and you shall renew the face of the earth.(by Andrea Foo)
