The formation commenced at 10am with Praise and Worship led by Li Mei which was then followed by team building. The team building consisted of two games whereby the teachers were divided into 2 groups. They participated in fun and interactive activities to break the ice among them.

The first talk was given by Dr. Sheila Rose a senior lecturer, illuminating the teachers on Faith Education where she mentioned that an educated person will seek the truth by learning the truth of existence and our purpose in life. She added, “a really educated man sees a relationship between various branches of knowledge”. She further explained on authentic learning methods to teach the catechism children using case studies, problem-based activities and role-playing exercises. She also highlighted that it is important to get the children to know one another.

Subsequently, around 12.30pm, everyone enjoyed a hearty lunch served at the café. Next, a second talk was given by Angeline from Minor Basilica St. Anne who is also a counsellor. Her talk focused on how teachers should get to know their students and their behavior. She stressed on how to approach extreme behavior demonstrated by the children. Angeline further emphasized on having a good rapport with the students and having a healthy teacher-student bond. The talk ensued with a sharing and question and answer session.

At 3pm, Kathlin delivered her talk on Faith Formation in Today’s World and the Role of Catechists. She elucidated the teachers on why faith is relevant in our world and the significance of faith formation to children and adolescents. She pointed that children are naturally receptive and more inclined towards God. She said “children naturally believe in God, but if it is not affirmed, it will dissipate”. She also underlined on the challenges faced in adolescent age on how children stop believing and lose their faith.

Finally, the formation ended with a summary by Li Mei and a discussion session among all teachers on activities and camps planned for the year ahead then followed light tea break.
