My Sheep Listen to My Voice

“How does one explain the ways of God?
Yet, I know that, at a certain point in my life, I became convinced that Christ was saying to me what he has said to thousands before me: “Come, follow me!”

Pope John Paul II on his call to the priesthood.

On this 4th Sunday of Easter also the Good Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Fr. Dom recapitulated his call into the priesthood. He said that timing plays an important part in answering God’s call. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me”. Jn 10: 27

“I wanted to join the priesthood after Form Five but my Parish Priest Fr. Andrew Lau asked me to continue with my studies. Then one day, after almost two years into my working life, he told me it was time to apply for the priesthood. By then, my thoughts of life were changing and reflecting on it now the timing was right. I signed up for priesthood. My parish priest always inspired me.  Although he was known for scolding his parishioners all the time, he was faithful to his duties. He dedicated his time to doing manual work on maintaining the church grounds and spent time in prayer daily. He was tuned to the spirit and knew exactly when to call me.

Many noises around us distract us from the call thus we need to listen carefully. The noise of worldliness can lead us away from the whispers of our true calling.

To follow Christ, one has to have the heart to serve a community. One has to be willing to serve a larger family. Next, one has to respond to the call when the time is right. “

Fr. Dom on his call to the priesthood.

“The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus. When you see a priest, think of our Lord Jesus Christ.” St. John Marie Vianney
