Mercy the Greatest Attribute of God
On this Feast of Divine Mercy, we are reminded that Mercy is the greatest attribute of God. The disciples huddled together in a room in fear experience the mercy of Christ when Jesus shows His wounds to them and gives them peace. He does not condemn them for deserting Him while on the cross but instead He breathes life into them and sets them on their mission (Jn 20: 19-31).
Fr. Konstend in explaining the word, said that we too like the disciples tend to lock ourselves up in anger and despair. We too doubt like Thomas when we experience difficulties and struggles in life. He said, all we need to do is open our hearts a little to let the mercy of Christ flow through us and experience the peace that this world cannot give.
Let no one doubt concerning the goodness of God; even if a person’s sins were as dark as night, God’s mercy is stronger than our misery. One thing alone is necessary; that the sinner set ajar the door of his heart, be it ever so little, to let in a ray of God’s merciful grace, and then God will do the rest.” (No. 1507)
Just as the disciples were sent, we too have mission:
Be always merciful as I am merciful. Love everyone out of love for Me, even your greatest enemies, so that My mercy may be fully reflected in your heart.’” (No. 1695) – SR
