Our God is Love

Fr. Martin pointed out that the readings of this week speak of God’s mercy and faithful love. Despite the infidelity and stubbornness of the Israelites, God does not abandon nor condemn them. He sent prophets out of love and compassion to bring them back and when all these efforts failed to turn their hearts towards him, God allowed the fall of Israel as means to set things right. After 70 years in captive in Babylon, God uses a foreign power – Cyrus the king of Persia to set the Israelites free and rebuild the temple of God.

We have a merciful God who waits patiently for us to return. He is a faithful God who does not condemn nor abandons.  Our God is not a fickle God and does not stop loving us when we stop. His love does not change. His love is Divine. Sometimes he allows pain and suffering so that we could be purified and return to Him. Our God is Love “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn 3: 16). He is full of mercy and compassion. – SR
