Homily
Fr. Paul related a story of little boy who was enchanted by the streaming lights from the stained glass of a chapel and enquired about the images imprinted on the stained glass. His mum told him that they were the saints. The very next morning during Sunday school, when the teacher asked the class,“ Do you know who the saints are?” , the little boy without hesitation responded “Saints are those who let the light shine through”.
With that Fr. Paul, threw a few contemplative questions to the congregation:
What kind of light shone through them?
He explained that Sts. Chastan and Imbert were adventurers of God and were martyred in Korea for their conviction in their faith. They shone God’s light.
What can we learn from Sts Chastan and Imbert- missionaries who became saints?
They were courageous, respected the humble and cared for the people.
How do we let God’s light shine through us?
It is when we share our kindness, forgiveness, compassion, care and love to those around us.
He concluded his homily with a quote from Pope Francis “the Christian faith was not brought to the shores of Korea through missionaries; rather, it entered through the hearts and minds of the Korean people themselves. It was prompted by intellectual curiosity, the search for religious truth. Through an initial encounter with the Gospel, the first Korean Christians opened their minds to Jesus” ( August 16, 2014).
