Our Church

Welcome to the Parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saints Chastan & Imbert. The Parish consists of two Churches, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saints Chastan & Imbert.

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (NBVM)

The wooden building of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was originally erected by the late Rev. Fr Souhait, the Parish Priest Church of the Assumption in 1935.

As the population grew, Rev. Fr. G. Belleville, who became the Parish Priest of NBVM in 1957 started the project of the new building for the Church. On the 23 July 1967, the Vicar General of Penang, Rev Msgr I J. Aloysius laid the foundation stone for the new Church. The Church was completed in 1969.

Church of Saints Chastan and Imbert (SCIC)

As the number of Catholics began to increase in the Seberang Perai Tengah area, it was thought prudent to earmark a piece of land for the purpose of building a Church. Rev. Fr G. Belleville, who had a vision for the Catholics in Perai, began to look for a piece of suitable land and having found one, he convinced the Diocesan authority to purchase the land

In 1986, it was decided to have a chapel cum community multi-purpose hall and the building project started in 1993. SCIC was completed in 1996.
