The Holy Spirit is Love that Acts through Us

“This third Person is called, in technical language, the Holy Ghost or the ‘spirit’ of God. Do not be worried or surprised if you find Him rather vaguer or more shadowy in your mind than the other two…….He is always acting through you. If you think of the Father as something ‘out there’, in front of you, and the Son as someone standing at your side, helping you to pray, trying to turn you into another son, then you have to think of the third Person as something inside you, or behind you.” C. S. Lewis

In his sermon on Pentecost Sunday, Fr. Dom said that the spirit is a motivator, takes away the fear and gives us courage, reminds us of our identity and fills us with love. The spirit works through us. “The Holy Spirit as a gift to man, transforms the human world from within, from inside hearts and minds”. Pope John Paul II

When we are weak and heavy-laden, the spirit lifts us and shows us the way. The spirit motivates us to persevere and carry on.

The spirit gives us the courage to face the world. When we are afraid and anxious about the future, the spirit gives us the courage to live in the present.

The spirit reminds us of our identity- child of God so that we do not turn in the wrong direction.

The spirit is “nothing less than a Person, who is Love” (Fulton Sheen). The spirit teaches us the language of love; even though we do not say much to each other, we know we are loved.
